Few days are so important that we spend months planning them. Our wedding day is one that merits such attention. Exactly how Bridezilla we go varies – some brides are calm, others teeter on the edge of a nervous breakdown. The trick is to plan well – right down to your makeup. So, for all you brides out there, here’s a smart timetable packed with tips from makeup artist Alexandra Aronsson.
3 MONTHS BEFORE
If you have acne or other blemishes, now’s the time to see a skin therapist.
‘Ask for a cleansing treatment and maintain it at home with peeling, deep purifying masks, thorough cleansing and toner,’ suggests Alexandra. ‘Make sure you use a day cream, night cream, eye cream and serum. And products with vitamin C will boost radiance.’
2 MONTHS BEFORE
‘Find makeup inspiration in bridal magazines and bridal blogs,’ says Alexandra. ‘It’s important you feel comfortable and like your most beautiful self.’
Natural makeup – perfect for weddings - was all over this season’s shows. Google SS14 makeup and you just might find your dream look on the catwalk!
1 MONTH BEFORE
‘Invest in an illuminating foundation, waterproof mascara and eye pencil, transparent powder, primer and a bronzer,’ says Alexandra. ‘A mascara that conquers moisture, heat and water (preferably from dawn till dusk) is a must! Use a waterproof mascara that is easy to apply with no clumps. The more coats, the more volume, so it’s easy to adjust it to your look. Don’t forget your brows, and choose a colour that harmonises with your hair.’
ONE TO TWO WEEKS BEFORE
‘If you have any spots or blemishes, repeat your deep-cleansing treatment. ’
THE DAY BEFORE
Give yourself a mani-pedi at home or treat yourself to a salon visit. Alexandra advises, ‘Pale nudes are usually the best match for a wedding look – and the ring!’
THE BIG DAY
Start with a primer under your foundation. ‘It evens the skin tone and sets your makeup,’ Alexandra explains. If your face and chest redden easily, she recommends a yellow-toned foundation on the vulnerable areas first, covered with a foundation in your natural shade. And she reminds us, ‘Don’t forget to protect your dress with a towel while you’re applying your makeup!’
TOUCH-UP KIT: |
‘Before the pictures, touch up with powder on your forehead, chin and nose. And give the groom a pat or two so he doesn’t look nervous in your wedding pictures,’ Alexandra suggests.
VALERIE AFLALO’S TOP TIPS FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BRIDAL MAKEUP
Stylish fashion designer Valerie Aflalo is au courant with a new accessory collection for Oriflame (watch this space!). This summer, it’s also time for Valerie’s own wedding. Valerie reveals her top tips for beautiful bridal style here.
What makeup look will you be going for?
– Flawless skin, subtle pink cheeks black eyeliner and lashes for days!
Where did you find the inspiration for your beauty style?
– In my line of work, I see a lot of fashion pictures in magazines. Fashion and makeup go together, so magazines are my biggest source of inspiration. And then it’s important that I like the makeup – I prefer a fresh, dewy look, definitely not too pale!
Can you tell us anything about your dress?
– It took three months to design and sew the dress, which is made of lace I bought in Paris.
Finally, can you reveal your top tips for summer brides?
– Don’t forget to use waterproof mascara and bring a hanky with you!
