How To: The Waterfall Braid

Our Pinterest feed is full of showstopping plaits, but the waterfall braid is by far our favourite. Brush up on your braiding skills in our step-by-step guide. You’ll soon see it’s not as hard as it looks!

Waterfall braid

1
Start by dividing your hair into a centre parting and curling it. Tip - to achieve romantic, loose curls hold your curling iron at a diagonal angle.

2
Begin at the top of your head, near your forehead. Gather a section of your hair and divide it into three parts. Now you’re going to start braiding.

3
Take the section furthest away from your face and let it fall between the other two sections – now drop it. By dropping this section, you’ll create the waterfall effect. Continue this technique, working the braid to the back of your head.

Once your first braid has reached the back of your head, secure it with a hair grip. Then, using the same technique as Step 2, start braiding the other side of your parting. Secure your second waterfall braid with another hair grip at the back of your head.
