Jonas Wramell’s Basic Makeup Know-How

Learn the most fundamental makeup tricks for women on the go! Here, our Global Artistic Director Jonas Wramell shares his favourite tips.

What’s the best way to take your makeup from daytime to a big night out?
-
Once the sun goes down, you can opt for makeup with bolder pigmentation. You can apply more product in bolder tones as soon as the light becomes less intense. The easiest way is to change your nude lipstick for a bolder hue. You can also use a blue, brown or black eye pencil and draw a line inside the wet line or below the eyes. This means you don’t have to worry about reapplying your morning mascara as it’ll add intensity and drama to your look.

What are the three essential tools every woman needs in her makeup bag?
-
You need a big eyeshadow brush and a fine one. A bigger brush is a great tool for easily defining the shape of the eyelid. For contouring, below the eye or anywhere you like, use just a little colour, then you need a fine brush for smooth application. And everyone needs a foundation brush to create a perfect base - and the fact that you can wash it means it’s also hygienic.

What’s the best way for more mature ladies to achieve the ’barely there’ makeup look?
- If you have a few wrinkles, it’s important to create a balance in your makeup. First you need to apply a base primer. This invaluable product goes on after your day cream and acts almost as a filler. It’s a silicone-based product that blurs any lines, minimises the appearance of pores and evens skin tone, giving you a velvety surface onto which to apply your makeup. Many women over 40 suffer from broken capillaries. A good concealer will cover these up beautifully. Choose a super-sheer, lightweight fluid foundation that gives your complexion lots of lustre, as almost every skin type loses some of its glow as we age. Finish the look by accentuating your brows. Neat, well-shaped brows together with a barely there look will create a glowing, youthful look.
