Skip the disposable cotton pads
Go for a more sustainable alternative such as reusable cleansing pads or face cloths, just like grandma did! All of those cotton pads we use go straight to landfill and may not biodegrade properly due to the bleaching and mixing processes used to create them.
Recycle containers
Instead of simply tossing your empty skin care packaging like moisturiser jars, serum and cleanser bottles, become a dedicated recycler to minimise the waste that goes to landfill. Glass jars are also great for storing hair pins or your reusable cleansing pads in. When buying new products, pick products with packaging made of glass or recycled plastic.
Choose multi-purpose products
Going for a 2-in-1 product means less package waste. Why not try a combined cleanser and toner or a 2-in-1 Mask & Scrub?
Stop using products with plastic microbeads
You know those bright little beads in scrubs? They may be plastic microbeads. When you rinse your scrub off the microbeads go down the drain and out into our water systems where they have a damaging effect on marine life, the environment and human health. So, make sure that your scrub products don’t contain plastic microbeads! You’ll be happy to know Oriflame banned the use of plastic microbeads in scrub products years ago, and since 2015 we only use natural origin exfoliants like almond shells or salt crystals.
Turn the tap off to save water
Remember not to leave the water running when you’re cleansing your face. The drinkable water from the tap goes into the sewage system and is then pumped into our water systems where it needs to be cleaned and filtered again, which consumes a lot of energy and money.
Go for eco-friendly ingredients
Biodegradable products and organic ingredients are much kinder to the environment. Biodegradable rinse-off products such as Love Nature help us to lower our impact on water, and Organic ingredients (in a number of ranges including Love Nature and Ecobeauty) use less chemicals and pesticides in their cultivation, harvesting and production.
Be mindful of how much product you are using
We often use way more product than we need. Using just the recommended amount helps you save money on buying new products, and less goes to landfill. Win win!
